A Captain Unafraid was part of the official selection of the Miami Independent Film Festival in December of 2018 and the Dumbo (N.Y.) film festival in February 2019. A Captain Unafraid screened (with its director Charles O' Brien in tow) at two FARO cultural centres (run by the Ministry of Culture) in Mexico City and also in conjunction with the Monterrey International Film Festival in October 2019. It was also part of the official selection of the Chicago Art House Film Festival that same month.


The Captain was shown at various community screening and events in Ireland throughout summer 2018-the Scully Fest. in Newmarket, Cork, @ the Carnegie Arts Centre in Kenmare and in more far flung shores, such as, in Café Rivendel in Valencia, Spain. In September 2019 it was part of the "Ché do Bheatha" Latin-American Festival in Killkee, Co. Clare. To arrange a community screening e-mail to:



The Captain won the "Golden Fox" award for best documentary at the Calcutta Cult Film Festival on dec. 6th 2017. The last screening of the year was at Alliance Francaise, Park St. Calcutta. 


There were screenings of A Captain Unafraid in both Holguín and Ciego de Ávila in November. The Holguín screening took place at an Irish Festival "Journada de la Cultura Irlandesa." This was organised by John McAuliff of the Fund For Reconciliation and Development and La Casa de Iberoamérica. 


IRISH PREMIERE - kerry film festival

The Irish premiere of A Captain Unafraid will be in "the Kingdom" where it closes the Kerry Film Festival on the 22nd of October 2017.

world premiere - la Habana

The World premiere of A Captain Unafraid took place at an E.U. sponsored "European Film Festival" in 2017 on June 3rd in Havana, Cuba.
